Stylish Makeup Brush Holder

I completely admit to borrowing this idea from Sephora and a video I saw on Youtube. Regardless, its a very good way to store makeup brushes. I purchased a vase from Michael's and a package of Colorfill Vase Filler. I love the modern look it gives the bathroom and it implements my favorite design motto great "form AND function"!

I am very happy with my recent purchase of Hot Couture by Givenchy perfume. It's a great summer scent. I bought the roller ball version. These hot summer temps make it a necessity to reapply some fragrance midday.



I finally succumbed to the eyelash growth serum craze and bought RapidLash serum. This product does work. I have only been using it for a few weeks and I can see a difference in my lashes. It's a bit expensive but since you only use a very small amount every night I think it will last awhile.

Container Home in San Antonio

Texas architect Jim Poteet helped Stacey Hill, who lives in a San Antonio artists’ community, wrangle an empty steel shipping container into a playhouse, a garden retreat and a guesthouse for visiting artists. The container measures a narrow and long 8 by 40 feet; Hill asked that a portion of the square footage be retained as a garden shed and the rest serve as the living space. The architect added floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows, heating and air-conditioning, a green roof, bamboo flooring and wallcovering, a small sink and shower and a composting toilet, and placed the structure on a base made from recycled telephone poles.

The container was brought to the property by truck, then the architectural team rented a small crane for around $250 a day to rotate it until they found the right spot for it to rest.

Poteet describes the space as “unbearably hot” before he used spray-foam insulation between the exterior walls and the interior bamboo. “Now it’s the equivalent of a steel ice chest,” he says.

I am loving the green roof.

The new Mikoh Swimwear line is gorgeous. The textures and colors are so whimsical. I love the designers use of interwoven fabrics. Makes for a very sexy swimsuit.

The Xavier One-Piece is my favorite but unfortunately its sold out.

Nursery Inspiration

My good friend Michelle is having her first baby this year. Decorating a nursery can be a fun but stressful process because baby's rooms have an entirely different set of needs than any other room in the house. For example, the room setting should invoke a calm atmoshphere, this can be achieved with lighting and color. Also a nursery is limited in terms of furniture selection.

I think the basic furniture in a nursery should include;
1. Crib
2. Changing table
3. Storage
4. Comfortable chair

Lighting can play a key role in nursery design. A statement chandelier would set the whole tone for the room. I particulary love the lighting from Tord Boontje. His designs are whimsical and definitely focal pieces, though not exactly affordable. Thankfully there are some more affordable options out there. This lamp is from Ebay and very affordable and cute.



Color is another important element in a child's room. Muted colors - blues, yellows, pinks, and greens are the best.











From the images above there are a few common themes; lighting, color and wall decals. Wall decals are any easy way to add a fun design element to any room.

Check out this NYT article profiling Kim and Andrew Todd's home. It's so gorgeous. I am partial to midcentury modern but this is a whole new spin on the design.

Oh Target, How I loathe and love thee

I went to Target yesterday with a specific list of items, trying to stay on task and not spend too much. I also didn't get a cart, I stuck with a basket. Well, it was at least a valiant effort. I ended up with less than 10 items for a whopping total of $83.15! What?!!! Seriously? I almost fell over. What spell does Target cast over me? It's so frustrating.

However, I did buy a new shower curtain and it performed wonders on my bathroom decor. I previously had a striped number like the top image and I bought a Thomas O'Brien white seersucker curtain. Viola, my bathroom was transformed. It's true what they say about white, it instantly brightens the room.

Perfect Spot

This is the most to.die.for perfect spot to lounge the day away on a Saturday afternoon with a cocktail and a good book. I want to go there. Now!

Stylish Tissue Boxes

I have said it once and I will say it again - function is just as important as form and form is just as important as function! There has always and will always be the need for a tissue box in my living room. Tissues are just a necessary part of life. Thankfully Kleenex is hip to the idea that tissue boxes should be stylish, but this is not their main goal. They have a few stylish options.
