I currently have 5 different foundations in my makeup drawer. Some may say this is excessive, and some may say this is a small amount. Before I got married last month, I went on a quest to find
the best foundation, which is why I have 5. Typically I only have 1 or 2 foundations and I rotate them depending upon situations. So which one is my favorite? Who are the winners and who are the losers in the foundation game? Let's review!
1.
By Terry - I bought this product based on the recommendation from the
Beauty Snob. She raved about it. But I am on the fence. It's pricey - the most expensive in the bunch at $58. The application is clever. You push the product up from the bottom and its applied with the built-in brush. However I still need to use an application sponge to apply it thoroughly so to me its another step that I would rather avoid. I do love the finish, its very silky and powdery. I don't love the coverage. I don't think it covers some of my natural redness well. It does smell good.
2.
Make Up For Ever HD - I bought this foundation based on a friend's recommendation, and I heard good things in general. Picked it up at Sephora so I could make sure the color was perfect. Make Up For Ever definitely has an amazing color selection. It lasts all day and creates a very flawless face. The coverage was lighter then what I was expecting but heavier than I prefer for most days. It has staying power, especially combined with a primer.
3.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer - I love using this foundation in the summer and on days when I don't want to feel like I am wearing makeup, mainly on the weekends. You know, when you need to run out and get groceries but don't feel like putting on a full face? This is the perfect product for those days. I didn't purchase the oil-free and regretted it.
4.
Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation - This foundation is just "ok". Nothing awe inspiring about it. The coverage and color selection is good. But it makes my skin look dry and flat. You definitely need to put moisturizer on before using this foundation. I think the price doesn't live up to the hype either.
5.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind - For a drugstore foundation this works very well. It has a very nice, natural finish. The application was easy and the coverage was good - easily buildable. I don't think it actually "rewinded" any parts of my face, but for the price it's a solid foundation.
The winner is Make Up For Ever. The loser is Laura Mercier Silk Foundation. I will definitely repurchase the Maybelline again.
